Craigslist Maid Services

At any given time, Craigslist has dozens of advertisements for cleaning and maid services. There are several reasons for this, the first and foremost being the fact that it’s free to place an ad. Second to this is the popularity of the site. When you think of the cost of advertising in a newspaper or the Internet, the bargain for these companies is apparent. However, the thing that you need to ask yourself is: do you really want to hire a maid service company that either can’t afford to or chooses not to pay for advertising?

With a cleaning company found the traditional way, either by word of mouth, actual paid advertisements, first-page Google listings or Angie’s List, you know what you’re getting. The company that you find and hire this way is licensed, bonded, and employs people with plenty of experience.

While some of the companies on Craigslist are legitimate, a good number of them are not. You might find independent cleaning contractors who have decided to run their own cleaning business and only employ one person — themselves. The odds of someone like this actually being insured against damages is small, and it’s hard to trust a one-person cleaning company, unless they are highly recommended. Also, it’s easy to fall for scams on Craigslist, and unfortunately, there are a number of scammers trolling this website looking for people to fleece. If the company asks you to pay up front, or their price sounds to good to be true, then they are trying to scam you.

This doesn’t mean that you should entirely count out Craigslist and refuse to even look at the ads on the site — it just means that you should be careful. Do a thorough background check on the company, ask for legitimate references, and complete a web search or two on the company name before deciding to hire a company that you’ve found through Craigslist. It’s the only way to be completely sure of what type of service you are going to get.
